Our recommendations
Washable beds with different care routes
Read the care label for the exact variant before washing. A removable cover and a washable entire bed are not interchangeable features.

What stands out
- Whole-bed machine wash

- Non-slip underside
Keep in mind
- Bulky to dry thoroughly

Decide what must actually be washed
If the dog returns with wet paws, a removable cover may be enough for most laundry days. After an accident that reaches the filling, washing only the shell is not enough. The useful question on a product page is not “Is it washable?” but “Which parts, at what temperature, and how will they dry?”
Check the crate first. A bed should cover the resting area without folding over the tray lip or closing over a bowl. Deep padding reduces headroom. Our crate bed sizing guide explains how to compare the bed's real measurements with the dog's usable interior.
Whole-bed washable choices
KSIIA: plush 90 × 60cm pad
The large KSIIA is a soft 8cm fibre-filled pad listed for whole-bed machine washing. That removes the need to separate a cover but puts a substantial wet item in the machine. Allow enough drying time and check the seams and filling after laundering; a damp centre can stay hidden under a dry surface.
EMPSIGN: simpler slim mat
EMPSIGN's 74 × 45 × 2.8cm mat is a smaller, reversible whole-wash option. It is easier to handle than a thick mattress and preserves crate height. The trade-off is cushioning; watch whether the dog settles comfortably on the slimmer pad.
Removable-cover choices
Ellie-Bo: separate cover and liner
The selected Ellie-Bo bed is about 87 × 57 × 10cm. Its cover comes off, and the listing specifies separate wash instructions for cover and liner. That gives you options after light or heavier soiling, but the deeper construction needs a crate with enough remaining sitting height.
JOEJOY: cover over foam
The JOEJOY 89 × 56 × 8cm mattress has a zipped washable cover. Remove it carefully and inspect the foam whenever liquid may have passed through. Do not assume the foam can be machine washed; use the precise care instructions for the selected variant.
A practical wash and dry routine
Remove the dog to a comfortable alternate resting place. Take the bed out of the crate, shake or vacuum loose hair, and check seams, zip and underside. Follow the maker's temperature and drying limits. Do not return a damp core to a closed crate; wash the tray and let it dry at the same time.
A spare slim crate mat can make laundry days easier. If accidents are frequent, compare waterproof crate mats and review the dog's toilet schedule, health and crate routine. A washable bed supports hygiene but cannot solve the reason for repeated soiling.
Common questions
Frequently asked questions
Can I wash a whole dog crate bed in the machine?
Only when the exact care label permits it and the bed fits without overloading the machine. Dry the filling fully before it goes back in the crate.
Is a removable cover better than a fully washable bed?
A cover is convenient for frequent surface dirt. A fully washable bed can clean the filling too, but may take longer to dry. The best choice depends on the type of mess and available laundry space.
How often should I wash crate bedding?
Clean promptly after any accident or heavy soiling and otherwise follow the dog's use, odour and the maker's care instructions. Inspect the tray and bed underside whenever bedding is removed.
Can foam go in the washing machine?
Many foam cores cannot. Check the exact manufacturer's label; machine washing an unsupported core can break it down or leave moisture trapped inside.
Should I use scented fabric conditioner on dog bedding?
Strong fragrance can be unpleasant for dogs, and residue may irritate sensitive skin. Follow the bedding care label and use a suitable detergent with thorough rinsing.
