Two-dog buying guide
Double dog car crates
Choose a double dog car crate by individual dog space, divider design, boot fit, door access and installation evidence.

Our recommendations
Double-compartment formats
The products below offer different construction and storage trade-offs. Confirm the divider is intended for use during travel and inspect the exact listing and instructions.
Cozy Pet ACDC12 aluminium car crate
Best for: A wide compatible boot needing two doors and an optional divider
An approximately 89–90cm-wide aluminium car crate with angled back, double doors, removable divider, locks and all-round ventilation. The listing varies by 1cm on width.
What stands out
- Two doors
- Removable divider
- Angled back
Keep in mind
- Large footprint
- Flat-pack assembly
- No documented crash testing
- 89–90 × 69 × 60cm (listed width varies)
- Double doors
- Removable divider
- Pre-fitted locks
Dog Health double sloped travel crate with divider
Best for: Two separate dog compartments in a folding wire format
A double-sloped steel-wire crate with four doors, removable divider and removable tray. Its fold-flat construction aids storage, but does not establish collision performance.
What stands out
- Four-door access
- Removable divider
- Folds for storage
Keep in mind
- No exact-model crash report supplied
- Individual compartment dimensions need checking
- Folding joints require inspection
- Double-sloped steel wire
- Four doors
- Removable divider and tray

Start with two individual dogs, not one large box
Measure each dog's length, sitting height and natural sleeping position. A double unit divides a published overall width into two smaller usable spaces after allowing for the frame and divider. One dog may need a larger compartment than the other. If either dog cannot turn or settle naturally, the combined crate is the wrong size even if both dogs fit together without the panel.
Temperament matters too. Dogs that resource-guard, become travel-sick, panic or redirect excitement towards each other may need separate locations rather than a shared unit. A divider needs to be secure and installed in the way the manufacturer intends; an improvised panel can fail or create snag points.
Two different construction choices
Cozy Pet ACDC12: wider rigid layout
The ACDC12 has an angled aluminium-frame body, two lockable front doors and a removable central divider. Its listing gives 89cm width in the title and 90cm in a bullet, with 69cm depth and 60cm height. Confirm the assembled width before planning a tight fit, and measure both resulting compartments, not just the outer shell. Its listing does not provide an exact-model collision result, so treat it as a divided containment format whose vehicle suitability needs separate confirmation.
Dog Health double sloped: folding steel-wire layout
This model combines a double-sloped profile, four doors, removable divider and tray with a fold-flat frame. Extra doors can help with access in a shallow boot, but only if the car leaves those doors clear. Steel wire and a fold-flat mechanism do not by themselves establish collision performance. Check the exact size selected, catches and the maker's vehicle-use instructions.
Measure the whole divided setup
Make a plan of the boot showing wheel arches, cargo anchors, opening width, loading lip and tailgate angle. Leave room to open both doors and reach each dog independently. A single central opening can make an apparently generous two-dog crate awkward when one dog refuses to exit. Follow our boot-measuring steps before ordering.
If the manufacturer allows a divider to be removed, that may make the crate useful for one dog later. It does not mean you should remove it while two dogs travel. Keep separate water, bedding and welfare needs in mind on longer journeys; do not leave dogs unattended in the car in warm conditions.
Installation and evidence
Ask where the crate attaches, whether the specified straps or brackets are included, and whether the vehicle has compatible points. A heavy two-dog unit can still slide or tip in a sudden stop. Load luggage so it cannot strike the doors or block ventilation. For a claim of crash protection, look for a report covering the exact model, load and divider configuration; our evidence guide explains the questions to ask.
Common questions
Frequently asked questions
Can two dogs travel in one undivided crate?
A shared compartment can allow dogs to collide or interfere with each other. Prefer individual spaces sized for each dog and follow the crate maker's intended use; consider separate restraints if the dogs are not completely compatible.
Does a divider make a double crate crash safe?
No. A divider organises space. Look for exact-model testing that includes the divider and the required vehicle installation before making a crash-protection claim.
How much space should each dog have?
Each dog should have enough usable room to adopt natural postures required by the product's instructions. Measure both dogs separately and check the internal compartment width, height and length after the divider is fitted.
Will a double crate fit through my boot opening?
Measure the narrowest hatch opening as well as the floor and roof line. A crate can fit the floor but fail to pass between trim or clear the tailgate.
Is a fold-flat double crate suitable for car travel?
Portability alone is not evidence of vehicle restraint performance. Check the maker's stated use, installation method and exact-model evidence before relying on it for travel.
